Welcome back students and staff! We are looking forward to a great second semester!

 

If you were selected to be a Collierville AM anchor for last year and you wish to be an anchor this year, please plan to stay for a meeting this Thursday January 10th  after school in room F112. This is not a meeting for people who want to try out to be anchor- those auditions will be announced soon.

 

TSA students:

  • Please return the travel forms to Mrs. McKinstry by the end of the day for our competition on Friday. You will not be able to attend unless you have a vetted driver.
  • Thursday Jan 9 there will be a mandatory TSA meeting in Mrs. McKinstry’s room, A507 at 2:45. Please note the change in day for this meeting.

 

 

Do you like poetry?  Do you want a chance to compete for $20,000? Then join Collierville High School’s first ever Poetry Out Loud team.  Poetry Out Loud is a poetry recitation contest in which high school students from across the nation gather to recite their favorite poems.  If you would like to join in the fun please attend an interest meeting with Mr. Sanders on Thursday, January 8th immediately after school in room A211.

SENIOR CHECK IN

1.      Students arriving after 7:40 will sign in at the tables outside the attendance office.

2.      Students will go directly to class.

 

 SENIOR CHECK OUT

1.      Students will sign out at the tables outside the Attendance Office and Cafeteria.

2.      Students do not need a parent note.

3.      Students will immediately leave campus.

 

UNDERCLASSMEN

There is an exam check-out permission slip which can be found on the CHS website.  The student must have this signed permission slip in hand (each day) when they leave campus.  These students may exit by the car rider line door or the exit by the cafeteria. There will be administrators or designated teachers taking the permission slips as the students exit.  

 

If a student does not have this form in hand, they will not be permitted to leave unless a parent comes to the attendance office and signs them out.

 

Students will not be able to check out during their exams. We will not disrupt exams.

Congrats to our Chick-fil-A Scholar Athletes of the Week: Representing Wrestling Andrew Artiles and Betsy Nations.  Artiles won his 100th career match and was the 126 weight class champion at Cabot Duals. Nations placed 3rd at Garner-Dyer Invite.  Both have GPA's above 3.0. Great job!

December 16, 2019

Make plans to come see the holiday concert by the CHS choir Tuesday night! Our talented singers and soloists will be accompanied by strings and the piano. The performance will begin at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. Admission is free, however, a $5 donation is suggested.

 

The lost and found box is overflowing in the counseling office.     Please come check it, if you have lost something this semester.  We have coats, lunch boxes, rain jackets, and an assortment of item.

 

 

There will be a mandatory meeting for new Beta Club members immediately after school on Tuesday, December 17th in room A412. Please bring $20 cash or a check payable to CHS for your National Beta Club dues.  Information about the Induction Ceremony will also be provided at this meeting.

 

 

Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors potentially interested in majoring in Education at the University of Memphis (one of the highest rated teacher prep programs in TN) should come to the counseling office by this Thursday (12/16)  to sign up for "Become A Tiger, Become a Teacher" day at UofM on March 6th, 2020. 

 

 

Are you a Spanish student who would like to live in Seville, Spain for two weeks next summer?  We have an opportunity for you! Any student who has completed at least one year of Spanish is eligible.  There is even a section available for Pre-AP Spanish Language Skills.  See Mrs. Williamson in room A611  or email:  twilliamson@colliervilleschools.org for more information.

 

 

If you find yourself stressed during exams, here’s a tip from the Labyrinth Movement.  Try taking slow and deep breaths.  Remember that the exams are for you to show your teacher what you have learned. 

Being a little anxious is okay.  It’s a sign that you want to do your best. 

It’s common to cram-study the night before an exam, but it’s actually better to put down the books and get a good night’s sleep.  Studies show that you perform better and remember more when you are well rested.

 

Here’s another relaxation tip from the Labyrinth Movement.  This is a quick and easy way to get your mind back in focus for exams. Breathe in for 5 seconds, hold your breath for 3 seconds, breathe out for 5 seconds.  Repeat as needed.

Relax!  You’ve got this!!

Friday was the final day of Angel Tree week and we celebrated with a pep rally surrounding all the gifts. Together, students and staff donated over $15,000.00 worth of gifts to the Salvation Army and their Angel Tree program. Our hearts are warmed by everyone’s generosity! What a way to head into the holiday season, thanks Dragon Family!

 

 

Athletics

 

Mens wrestling is traveling to Cabot, AR to compete in the Cabot Duals.

 

Womens wrestling will head to Tullahoma, TN for their matches. Good luck to all our Dragon wrestlers!

 

The swimming teams will compete against all area league teams Saturday. The meet will begin at 10:00 am at the Germantown Athletic Club.

 

Congratulations to senior Holly Stalls, junior Sydney Davis and sophomore Ellison Suhoza for being chosen for the

Daily Memphian Division 1 All-Metro girls soccer team!  Holly Stalls is also a Player of the Year finalist. Way to go!

Tomorrow is the last day of Angel Tree week! We will celebrate sending off all our angel gifts with a Christmas spirit pep rally. The dress up theme is Tacky Holiday Sweater!

 

The CHS Orchestra will be performing their Winter Concert this Friday the 13th at 6:00PM in the Pickler Auditorium. The cost is free. We hope to see you there!!

The Dragon math team competed in the Vestavia Hills High School Math Tournament on Saturday in Birmingham and came in 5th place out of over 30 schools from across the region.

Alex Zhang (4th place) and Subhash Eeradapalli (8th place) received trophies for their individual scores in the comprehensive written exam, taken by 128 students.

December 11, 2019

Thursday is day four of Angel Tree Week! The theme is Holiday Family Photo Shoot. Gather some friends and coordinate your outfits for that perfect (or awful!) family photo! Dress code guidelines must be followed.

 

 

Make plans to come see the second holiday band concert of the week Thursday night. The performance by the Freshman Band and the Wind Symphony will take place at 7:00 pm in the Pickler Auditorium. Admission is free!

 

 

Tennessee All-West Orchestra Results

After an intensive audition process, the students listed below were selected to represent the very best musicians in West Tennessee. Basketball will host three games Thursday. 9thgrade boys maroon will tip-off against MHEA at 4:30, JV boys maroon against Freedom Prep at 6:00 pm, and ending with varsity boys against Freedom Prep at 7:30 pm. Admission is only $5!

 

The swimming teams will compete at Compton Aquatic at St. George’s against ten local teams Thursday. The meet will begin with women at 4:30 followed by men at 5:00 pm.

 

Mens wrestling travels to Germantown Thursday. The match will begin at 6:00 pm.

 

 

Student Activities

 

There is an informational meeting Thursday night at 6:00 pm in the community room for students looking to join the educational tour headed to Central Europe in the summer of 2021. For more information if you are unable to attend, see Mr. Carey.

 

Students attending the West TN TSA competition should pick up a form and pay a $10.00 fee before we leave for break. Please see Mrs. McKinstry in A507 as soon as possible.

In basketball, the freshmen boys white team will be headed to Ridgeway for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.

 

Congratulations to our Chick-fil-A Scholar Athletes of the Week: Bowling's Tristian Kelly and Basketball's Hailey Barger. Kelly led the team to wins over Millington, Houston, and Bartlett to claim District Title. Barger has played a key role for the Lady Dragons. Way to go!

Attention members of the speech and debate team: there is no after school practice this week. There will be a meeting for all competitors on Wednesday after school. If you cannot attend, please see Mr. Robbins.

 

 

Hey CHS! Did you know that the Memphis Animal Shelter and the Collierville Animal Shelter is full? And they will be full over the Winter holidays too. So if you are interested in helping these poor homeless pets have a more warm enjoyable holiday season go to the library and purchase an ornament from our Paw Pals tree. Each ornament has something on it that you can buy and bring to MRs. Brice in room 924 by Friday! Help the puppies and kitties have a warm winter!

December 9, 2019

Tomorrow is day two of Angel Tree Week. The theme is Ski Lodge, so break out your winter gear! Dress in your hats, scarves, mittens, goggles and sweaters and look the part! Face coverings are not allowed.

Also, make sure to check with your first period teacher for any last minute angel needs.

 

 

The first of the CHS band winter concerts will be taking place this Tuesday, December 10th, at 7:00 p.m. Please make plans to come to the Pickler Auditorium for the annual Holiday Concert presented by the Jazz Ensemble and the Symphonic Band. Admission is free!

The freshman band and wind symphony will be in performance Thursday. Also be on the lookout for information about the orchestra and choir holiday concerts coming up!

 

 

The CHS knowledge bowl team took three teams to the Arlington High School Quiz Bowl Tournament this past Saturday and competed in a very competitive field of 27 area teams.  Our “B” Team finished in 2nd Place, and our “A” Team finished in 3rd.  Please congratulate the following students for their performance:

The Collierville High School cheerleading team defeated Christ Presbyterian Academy to claim the state championship in the Super Varsity Division at Middle Tennessee State University Saturday evening. The girls performed exceptionally well and will advance to Nationals in Orlando, Florida. Congratulations ladies!

The Draco Playhouse is holding auditions for the spring musical - The Drowsy Chaperone.  Auditions will be held December 10-12th. Dance auditions will be Dec 10th.  Students will need to sign up for a vocal audition time on Dec 11th. Callbacks will be held Dec 12th.

Congratulations to senior Alex Zhang who recently competed in the Harvard MIT Mathematics Tournament at Harvard University. This is an extremely challenging tournament of teams reaching into Europe and Asia that is  narrowed down to only 100 teams competing. Alex placed 49thoverall in the individual competition. Please join us in congratulating him on this amazing accomplishment!

Congratulations to our boys wrestling team that will be the focus of Fox 13 News High School Sports Zone this week! Last night they beat MUS 52-20 and East 72-12. Tune in Friday night to see the story! They will continue competition this weekend in the Black Horse Invitational at Houston High School.

On Monday, December 9th we kick off our annual Angel Tree Week! The intention of this week for CHS is to celebrate the spirit of giving and serving our community. We encourage all students to participate if they can by bringing in gifts or donations for their first period adopted angel. We will cap off the week by celebrating at a pep rally! Each day of this week will also have a dress up theme:

  • Monday – Pajama Day
  • Tuesday – Ski Lodge (winter gear such as hats, scarves, sweaters…no face coverings allowed)
  • Wednesday – “Sleigh Day”, dress to impress
  • Thursday – Holiday Family Photo, coordinate with some friends to create the perfect (or awful!) family photo
  • Friday – Tacky Holiday, ugly Christmas sweaters and accessories

 

 

 

Athletics

 

The boys varsity basketball team will travel to Danville, IN Friday to compete in the Hendricks County Hoopfest for the weekend. Good luck to the Dragons as they head to Coach Robinson’s home town!

 

Girls varsity and JV basketball, along with 9thgrade boys maroon, will travel to Harding Academy Friday. JV will begin at 3:15 p.m., followed by 9thmaroon at 4:40, and finishing with varsity girls at 6:00 p.m. Good luck!

 

 

Boys soccer will be holding an informational on Friday 6th of December at 2:45pm in the community room for anyone who is interested in trying out for the team. If you cannot attend the meeting, please contact Coach G or Coach Smigielski.

 

Congratulations to the boys bowling team as they won the District Championship yesterday! They will advance to the Regional competition that will be held in January.

Thursday evening, our 9thgrade Dragon boys basketball teams will be in action beginning at 6:00 p.m. The white team will face Arlington while the maroon team follows at 7:30 p.m. against MHEA. Games will tip-off in the MTM field house.

 

 

There will be an informational meeting for all boys interested in playing spring lacrosse on Monday, December 9th right after school in Coach Nelson's room, A705. Any player who cannot make the meeting should see Coach Nelson to confirm their intention to play spring lacrosse.

 

 

Congratulations to the bowling team! They defeated Houston and are headed to the district finals vs. Bartlett Wednesday.

Good luck to our Dragons Bowling team Tuesday afternoon in the TSSAA District 17 tournament.  They take on Millington at 1:30 pm with the winner advancing to the semi-finals versus the Cordova/Houston winner at 3:30 pm. Finals match Wednesday at 3 pm at Cordova Lanes.

 

Remember to bring $5 to lunch Wednesday to purchase your ticket to the girls basketball game that will take place during school on Thursday! Tickets will only be sold during all lunches in the cafeteria Wednesday and Thursday. Don’t miss out! Gold and silver cards are not accepted.

December 2, 2019

Welcome back to all our students and staff! There are just over two weeks of regular classes before we hit exams, so let’s finish the first semester strong Dragons!

 

On Tuesday, December 3rd, Dragon Robotics is hosting a VEX Robotics Tournament. Four CHS teams will be competing against 24 other local teams. Robots will face off against each other in several rounds of qualification matches before the finals where an alliance of two robots will become the tournament champions and qualify for the TN State Championship in March. Good luck to our Dragons!

 

It is almost time for Hogwarts for the Holidays! Please plan on joining the orchestra group for this fun and creative day where you can join in crafts, games and activities. There will be a Harry Potter themed escape room, stations to join a house and craft a tie, make your own quill, craft some dragon slime, and try your hand at quidditch! Men’s wrestling travels to Millington for a match Tuesday. They will begin at 6:00 p.m. The team got off to a great start to begin the 2019-2020 season over Thanksgiving break. Andrew Artiles had seven takedowns as the Dragons defeated Kingsbury 66-0 and Bolton 60-6.

 

 

Your Collierville Lady Dragons Basketball Team will be in action for an in-school game on this Thursday, December 5th at 12:45.  The Lady Dragons will be hosting the Memphis Academy of Science & Engineering (MASE).  The cost will be $5.00 and tickets will be on-sale during all lunches this Wednesday and Thursday.  We really need everyone in attendance for this big in-school basketball game, come support the girls!

 

 

Congratulations to our Chick fil A Scholar Athletes of the Week, CJ Wilson and Mallory Taylor, both representing basketball. Wilson was the team’s leader in rebounds last week and Taylor had 16 points to lead the Lady Dragons win over Holly Springs. Way to go!

Women’s Empowerment Club is still taking your donations for period hygiene products, such as packages of tampons, pads, and liners.

Your donation helps support the nonprofit Sister Supply and your very own CHS nurse stations.

Our drop off boxes are still in Ms. Herlong’s room A224, the Guidance office, and the Library.

But wait! We’re also collecting during all lunches on Wednesday, where you can win a prize for any packaged donations or cash donations.

Don’t want to walk around school with a box of tampons or pads? Gift wrap it!

 

 

 

Congratulations to our newly announced Class of 2020 Hall of Fame! In conjunction with the yearbook, twenty senior students are chosen by faculty and staff based on their overall grades, citizenship, responsibility and leadership. The 2020 Hall of Fame seniors are:
