Course Description
Welcome to the last semester of your high school career!
Economics is a semester course required for graduation. This course will cover the basic principles of economics in today's world.  An understanding of basic economic concepts such as scarcity, competition, opportunity cost, supply and demand, taxation, and economic growth will provide you with a framework for understanding the economic issues that have an immediate impact on your daily lives. It is essential for you to gain an in-depth understanding of the function of the American economy as a free enterprise system as well as the operation of the independent world economy.

I fully expect you to succeed in economics and graduate in May. There are several things students can do to insure success:
  • Read the textbook. Economics includes many ideas and concepts that are new to students. Being familiar with the material before I discuss it in class will help students understand it better.
  • Take notes in class. I purposely emphasize the material from the text that I consider most important. This emphasis provides a good indication of what will be on quizzes and tests. Taking notes in class helps students learn the material and assists in determining what to study for quizzes and tests.
  • Participate in class discussions and activities.
  • Make doing homework a learning process. I deliberately selected the questions from each section that I want students to complete for homework. Accurately completing these homework questions also helps students prepare for quizzes and tests.
  • Come for tutoring when extra help is needed. Economics is a cumulative subject. Topics we cover in the first few chapters are used throughout the semester. It is essential that students get tutoring early to avoid being left behind. I am usually available during 7th period and before school by appointment.

Following these suggestions will make this last semester more enjoyable and more successful. I look forward to watching you walk across the stage in May.
