Out of an abundance of caution, tnAchieves is cancelling the remainder of its mandatory TN Promise meetings, including the meeting scheduled for CHS students.  Because the window of opportunity to meet with high school seniors is small, tnAchieves will NOT reschedule the meetings.

tnAchieves is communicating this change to students and parents/guardians this morning.  Students and parents/guardians have been sent a MANDATORY webinar.  It is mandatory for the student to log individually into their tnAchieves account and watch the webinar in its entirety to retain TN Promise eligibility.  The deadline to watch the short webinar is April 3, 2020 at 11:59 PM CT.  Failure to watch the webinar by the deadline will result in loss of TN Promise eligibility.  In true tnAchieves fashion, we will communicate this deadline multiple times over various platforms over the coming weeks.

Students make sure you check your attendance daily in powerschool. If you have been marked absent unintentionally by a teacher, please notify that teacher so that the teacher can notify the attendance office. Additionally, if you are absent, please bring a note to the attendance office within 48 hours.

Students, please come check lost and found in the counseling office before spring break. It is overflowing with jackets, lunchboxes and other assorted items.

Thank you to everyone who came out to audition to be an anchor on CHSTV. This was an incredible group of students and it was really hard to pick only five. The following students have been selected as anchors: Ryan Booth, Nick Douglas, Tyler Fowler, Nick Luter, and Chantel Maravilla. These students need to stop by to see Mr. Robbins before they leave for spring break.

If you did not get cast, there will be another set of auditions at the end of the year.

World Down Syndrome Day will be celebrated on Saturday, March 21, 2020. Last year, CHS celebrated this day with blue and yellow clothes, awareness campaigns, and donations to the National Down Syndrome Society. We are excited to celebrate it once again this year on Thursday, March 12, 2020! Our goal is to promote a culture of inclusivity at CHS while we raise awareness of what down syndrome is, what it means to have down syndrome, and how people with down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities. All funds raised will be donated to the Down Syndrome Association of the Mid-South. https://dsamemphis.ezeventsolutions.com/Walkin/page/Home

THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 2020

  • Wear blue and yellow and/or crazy socks
  • All students and staff members are invited to participate.
  • Blue and yellow are the official colors for down syndrome awareness. In addition, there is a “Lots of Socks” campaign that encourages you to wear lots of socks, colorful socks, crazy socks, or even three socks to represent the three chromosomes! The goal is to stand out so people ask you about your socks and you can help raise awareness.
  • Listen for some special announcements throughout the day.
  • Make a donation to the Down Syndrome Association of the Mid-South.
  • At approximately 1:26pm, we will make an announcement dismissing any student who wishes to donate (any amount) from seventh period. Students should leave their bags in the classroom and show the teacher their money before leaving the room. They will head to the main hallway where they will see some awesome friends cheering them on and giving high fives! They will drop their donation in a bucket and head back to class.

Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris held a youth summit on February 21, which was sponsored by the Shelby County Youth Council (SCYC). Collierville has a chapter of the youth council, and the organization is providing an opportunity for all high schoolers to have a voice in politics. Through the Bridge Builders CHANGE initiative, students are provided the opportunity to become leaders who advance social justice through community organizing. To combat the problem of youth not having a voice in issues that affect them, CHANGE has created a survey to create a unified platform.

For more information about Bridge Builders CHANGE, please click the following link: http://www.bbchange.org.

Please use the link below to access the CHANGE survey. Each user will need to create a Google login if he/she does not already have one. Thank you in advance for participating and ensuring your voice is heard.
