Balancing Act: Four CHS Varsity Athletes named National Merit Semifinalists

Linney, a 4 time letter winner in cross-country and track, has maintained a 4.5641 GPA and has competed for the Dragons in two state championships. She won the Most Valuable Runner award during the 2016 cross-country season and led the Dragons at Regionals and State.
 
Linder, an All-Region performer in cross-country and track, has earned a 4.6364  GPA and is currently ranked 7th in the senior class. He is a four year letter winner and was a part of the 2016 state qualifying 4X800 team that set the school record of 8:13.
 
Hayes, a varsity soccer player and cross-country athlete, has achieved a GPA of 4.6625 and is currently ranked 5th in the senior class. He is a starting defender for a soccer team that has qualified for two consecutive state championships.
 
Yu, a varsity pole vaulter for the Dragons track and field squad, and has achieved a GPA of ? And is currently ranked ? In senior class. He scored points for the Dragons at the TSSAA Section 4 championship, placing 6th and eclipsing 10’6” in the pole vault.
 
These athletes further solidify an outstanding tradition of academic excellence by the teams at Collierville High School.
