Collierville's Gross, Brainard Receive Recognition

Austin Peay signee Kelsey Gross has been terrific all year for the Dragons, but she outdid herself on Monday's 10-0 victory over Millington, pitching a complete-game two-hitter, striking out 19 in seven innings and going 4 for 5 at the plate. Earlier, she struck out nine and went 2 for 3 in a one-hit victory over rival Germantown.

Senior Sammy Brainard was named the outstanding performer at the 18th Dragon Relays over the weekend and deservedly so.  She won the mile (5:26.53), the two-mile (12:01.07) and ran the mile leg on the winning distance medley team and ran the anchor leg on the 3,200-meter relay team, turning in a 2:17 split as Collierville surged from third place to win that race, along with the team title.  Brainard will take her talents to Arkansas State University in the fall.
