Environmental Science Classes Participate in WildCam Gorongosa Project

In the 1960’s Gorongosa National park in Mozambique was one of the premier tourists destinations in Africa. Years of civil war have destroyed much of the park’s ecosystem, and tourists no longer visit. Scientists are currently working to restore the park’s ecosystem, in the hope that it will bring animals, and eventually tourists back to the area. One of the techniques for gathering data is the use of motion capture cameras around the park to take pictures of the animals in the area. Sorting through hundreds of thousands of photographs is time consuming work, so scientists have turned to volunteers to help in the research effort.
