Introduction to Aerospace is a comprehensive foundational course for students interested in pursuing careers in aviation. This course covers the basic principles governing flight and the regulation of flight that every aviation professional must know regardless of his or her occupation—as a pilot or an engineer, a salesperson or a specialist, a mechanic, or a statistician. In addition to acquiring foundational knowledge of safety procedures and industry regulations, students will also gain essential understanding of aircraft structures, the flight environment, basic procedures, and navigation. Credits:  1.0 (Grade Level:  9-10 / Prerequisite:  None)

Aviation Maintenance I Dual Enrollment introduces students to aviation safety. The coursework will include an overview of aviation math/physics. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of aircraft maintenance and technical mechanics, as well as fundamentals of regulation and workplace skills. Students will perform various hands-on tasks. Credits:  1.0 (Grade Level:  11 / Prerequisite:  None)

Speciate Note:  First year aviation mechanics students must enroll in Aviation Maintenance I Dual Enrollment in the fall and Aviation Maintenance II Dual Enrollment in the spring.

Aviation Maintenance II Dual Enrollment is a continuation of the skills learned in the first level course and shop hours. Credits:  1.0 (Grade Level:  11 / Prerequisite:  Aviation Maintenance I Dual Enrollment)

Special Note:  : First year aviation mechanics students must enroll in Aviation Maintenance I Dual Enrollment in the fall and Aviation Maintenance II Dual Enrollment in the spring.

Aviation Maintenance III Dual Enrollment introduces students to the fundamentals of aviation electricity. Students will learn about basic electricity and airframe electrical systems. Coursework will include the reciprocating electrical system and the turbine electrical system. In addition, students will learn about aircraft inspection. Credits:  1.0 (Grade Level:  12 / Prerequisite:  Aviation Maintenance II Dual Enrollment)

Special Note: Second year aviation mechanics students must enroll in Aviation Maintenance III Dual Enrollment in the fall and Aviation Maintenance IV Dual Enrollment in the spring.

Aviation Maintenance IV Dual Enrollment is a continuation of the skills learned in the third level course and shop hours. Credits:  1.0 (Grade Level 12 / Prerequisite:  Aviation Maintenance III Dual Enrollment)

Special Note:  Second year aviation mechanics students must enroll in Aviation Maintenance III Dual Enrollment in the fall and Aviation Maintenance IV Dual Enrollment in the spring.

Dual Enrollment Opportunities
Collierville High School is partnered with Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) for our Dual Enrollment Aviation Maintenance courses. The dual enrollment program allows junior and senior students to participate in college level courses conducted during the school day on the CHS campus. Dual enrollment courses are taught by CHS teachers who are credentialed by the postsecondary institution or by university faculty. Students must meet admission requirements to the relevant postsecondary institution. College credit is awarded upon successful completion of the course.

Students enrolled in the Aviation Maintenance Dual Enrollment program are actively working toward completing the general phase of the FAA Aviation Mechanic General, Airframe, and Powerplant Airman Certification.
