CHS Seal of Biliteracy/Seniors

The 2017-18 graduating class was our first group of students recognized under the CHS Seal of Biliteracy, the following 2018-19 graduating class grew to 44 recipients, 2019-20 graduating class boosted 52 students receiving the Seal, the 2020-21 graduates hailed 30 recipients, and 2021-22 celebrated 43 recipients. Each year our program grows and recognizes bilingual and multilingual students. The program, adopted by the state of Tennessee, recognizes the value of speaking more than one language, promotes language proficiency in all four domains (reading, writing, listening & speaking), and delivers new economic opportunities for our students as they transition into college and the work force.

Only Seniors are eligible for the Seal. Students must complete a Letter of Intent and meet all requirements to be accepted. Depending on your language background, some students may be required to complete a nationally recognized proficiency exam (STAMP 4S, STAMPS WS). Once approved and accepted, students will receive a CHS Seal of Biliteracy Certificate and recognition in the graduation program.

Letter of Intent forms may be printed or you may pick one up in Room A605/Foreign Language Hall. Please return all Letters of Intent along with AP exam scores to Mrs. Misenheimer (A605) for acceptance.  Once the application has been reviewed, I will notify students if they are required to take a standardized proficiency test. Not all students will have to testAP scores of 3 or higher will be accepted as one of the standardized proficiency tests.

Our next bilingual proficiency testing window is set for March 5th, 6th, and 7th.  All four domains (reading, writing, listening & speaking) will be tested after school (2:45 pm - 4:30 pm) in Room A605/Foreign Language Hall, so please plan accordingly.  Most students require a minimum of two days to complete the entire test. All payments for testing are completed on-line through the STAMP 4S payment link (see below). Students may also chose the Handwritten option for selected languages. Additionally, there is a ProctorTrack option (additional fee) for virtual testing.

Global Seal of Biliteracy

The Global Seal of Biliteracy is an international credential that conveys proficiency with language skills in two or more languages for our students. This credential offers a competitive advantage for our students by helping them earn scholarships, higher pay, college credit, increased study abroad opportunities and so much more. The Global Seal is and will be FREE for all. Additionally, it allows students an opportunity to present to future colleges, universities, and employers that not only are they academically bilingual, but also prepared to use their language skills for the work place.

Once the student completes the STAMP 4S/STAMP WS test and qualifies for the CHS Seal of Biliteracy, we will submit all documentation on behalf of the students for approval of the Global Seal of Biliteracy. If a student meets all requirements, a certificate will be included in the graduation packet.
